Move to a New Phone

Bring each vault over with its recovery phrase.

To move HypaVault to a new phone, bring each vault over with its 12-word recovery phrase, then choose a new passcode.

A new phone restored from an iCloud, computer or phone-to-phone backup brings the encrypted vault data, but not the device key, which never leaves the old phone. The new phone asks for each vault's recovery phrase to bring that vault over, then a new passcode.

  • Or restore from a .hypa backup file with the recovery phrase.
  • Or, with Pro, sync from the old phone over Wi-Fi.
  • Then tap Restore Purchases to bring back Pro.

Keep the old phone as it is until every vault opens on the new one. It's the easiest place to make a fresh backup, or send a sync, if anything is missing.

Questions About This Task

Bring each vault over with its recovery phrase.

  1. The device key that helps protect each vault never leaves the old phone and isn't in iCloud, computer or Google backups. The recovery phrase stands in for it, and then you choose a new passcode.

  2. No. Restoring a backup with the recovery phrase works on every plan, and receiving a synced vault as the first vault on a new phone works on Free. Only sending with Sync with Another Phone needs Pro.

  3. Yes, with Restore Purchases, as long as you're signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought it with.

  4. Bring each one over with its own recovery phrase. Every vault has separate words, so the new phone asks for them one vault at a time.
