Your Recovery Phrase

Twelve words, shown once. Keep them on paper.

Your recovery phrase is 12 words HypaVault generates when a vault is created, using the BIP39 standard that crypto wallets use. They're shown once, can't be copied, and are never stored.

  • They reset a forgotten passcode.
  • They open the vault's backups.
  • They bring the vault to a new phone.

Every vault has its own phrase. You can replace a vault's phrase with a new one anytime, in Settings › Recovery Phrase.

Write the words on paper and keep them somewhere safe and offline. Anyone who has your recovery phrase can open your backups.

Questions About This Task

Twelve words, shown once. Keep them on paper.

  1. The phrase can't be copied, and on Android a screenshot of the app shows black. Write it on paper instead, because a picture of it would sit in your gallery and possibly a cloud photo backup.

  2. No. It uses the same BIP39 word standard, but it belongs to one HypaVault vault and works only for that vault and its backups. Your crypto wallet's words go in a seed phrase note.
