Free Photo Metadata Remover

Photos carry hidden details: where they were taken, on which phone, and when. Open a photo to see what it gives away, then save a clean copy to share. The photo is processed on your device and never uploaded.

What Is Photo Metadata?

Photo metadata, often called EXIF data, is information saved inside an image file alongside the picture. It can include the exact GPS location where the photo was taken, the date and time, the phone or camera model, the lens, editing software and sometimes the owner's name or the device's serial number. Removing it before you share a photo stops those details travelling with it. This tool shows what a JPEG or PNG contains and saves a fresh copy without any of it.

How to Use It

  1. 1Choose a JPEG or PNG photo, or drop it onto the box.
  2. 2Review what it reveals: location, device, dates and more.
  3. 3Tap Remove Metadata, then download the clean copy and share that one.

Questions About the Photo Metadata Remover

See the hidden location and camera details in a photo, then download a clean copy.

  1. No. The photo is read and cleaned in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and it's gone when you close the page.

  2. Often the GPS location, date and time, phone or camera model, lens, editing software, and sometimes the owner's name, copyright or the device's serial number.

  3. It redraws the picture into a brand-new image file, which carries only the pixels. Then it checks the new file and shows that nothing is left.

  4. It looks the same. JPEGs are saved again at high quality, so the file size may change a little, and PNGs keep every pixel.

  5. JPEG and PNG work everywhere. Some browsers can also open WebP and HEIC photos; if yours can't, export the photo as a JPEG first.

  6. Many strip it when you post publicly, but files sent by email, cloud links or some chat apps often keep it. Cleaning first means you don't have to rely on it.

  7. Turn off location for the camera. On iPhone it's in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Camera. On Android, look in the camera app's settings. The Phone Privacy Audit walks you through it.

  8. HypaVault keeps photos encrypted on your phone rather than editing them. Photos taken with its in-app camera go straight into the vault and never reach your gallery.
