HypaVault's device key never leaves the old phone, so nothing opens on the new one without your recovery phrase. That's what keeps a copied vault unreadable, and it's why moving phones takes one extra step. There are three ways across; pick the one that fits.
Restore Your Whole Phone
If you set up the new phone from an iCloud, computer or phone-to-phone backup, the encrypted vault data comes with it, but the device key doesn't. When you open HypaVault, it asks for each vault's recovery phrase to bring that vault over, then a new passcode.
Restore From a .hypa Backup
- 1Install HypaVault on the new phone.
- 2Choose Restore from Backup and pick the .hypa file.
- 3Enter the recovery phrase of the vault it came from.
Sync Straight From the Old Phone
With Pro, Sync with Another Phone sends a copy of a vault directly to the new phone over Wi-Fi, encrypted, with no server in between.
- 1Put both phones on the same Wi-Fi network.
- 2Pair them by scanning each other's QR codes, or by copying and pasting the codes.
- 3Send the vault. On the new phone, it opens with the vault's recovery phrase.
- It's a one-time send, not continuous background sync, and the old phone keeps its vault.
- If the other phone already has the vault, it gets only what's new. Deletions aren't synced.
- Sending needs Pro. Receiving a vault as the first vault on a new phone works on Free.
Restore Your Purchases
Tap Restore Purchases on the new phone, signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought Pro with.
Check Before You Wipe the Old Phone
Open every vault on the new phone with its passcode and look inside before you erase or hand on the old one. Until you have, the old phone is your best copy.
