Set Up Your Vault

Setup is just a passcode. Choose one, keep your recovery phrase, and you're in.

To set up HypaVault, open the app, choose a 6-digit passcode and write down the 12-word recovery phrase it shows you. HypaVault never asks for an email, phone number or sign-in.

HypaVault runs on iPhone (iOS 16 or later), iPad, and Android phones and tablets (Android 10 or later). On your home screen it's called Hypa.

  1. 1Open HypaVault. There's nothing to sign up for.
  2. 2Choose a 6-digit passcode. Weak codes, like runs (123456) and repeats (111111), are refused.
  3. 3Write down the 12-word recovery phrase on paper. It's shown once, can't be copied, and is never stored.
  4. 4Your vault is ready. Tap + to add your first files.

Once you've added a few things, make your first backup with Back Up Now and save the file somewhere off the phone. A backup and your recovery phrase are what bring the vault back if the phone is lost.

  1. Yes. HypaVault never asks for an email, phone number or sign-in, so a passcode and a recovery phrase are all a vault needs.

  2. It's shown only once and never stored, so it can't be shown again. While you can still open the vault, replace it with a new phrase in Settings › Recovery Phrase and write that one down.

  4. Yes. Each phone keeps its own encrypted vaults, and nothing syncs in the background. To put a vault on another phone, restore a backup there with the vault's recovery phrase, or with Pro send a copy over Wi-Fi.
