The Notes tab holds two kinds of note. Text notes are for anything you'd rather not leave in your phone's own notes app. Seed phrase notes are built for the 12 or 24 words that control a crypto wallet.
Write a Private Note
- 1Tap + and choose New Note.
- 2Pick a text note.
- 3Type. The note saves as you go, encrypted.
Store a Seed Phrase
- 1Tap + and choose New Note, then a seed phrase note.
- 2Type the words into the numbered grid, or paste the whole phrase at once to fill it.
- 3Save. The words are encrypted and hidden.
A seed phrase note holds 12 or 24 words. In the list it reads "12 words, hidden" instead of showing any of them, so a glance at the Notes tab gives nothing away.
Show the Words Only When You Choose
To read the words, press and hold. They show only while you hold, then hide again. Anything you copy clears from the clipboard after 60 seconds, so a copied word doesn't linger.
Notes are easy to find again: Search looks through the open vault by name, and its Browse tiles include Notes.
Why Not a Screenshot?
A screenshot of a seed phrase sits in your photo library with everything else, where any app with gallery access can read it. In February 2025, Kaspersky researchers reported apps in Google Play and the App Store that did exactly that, using text recognition on gallery images to hunt for crypto wallet seed phrases. A seed phrase note keeps the words encrypted, unreadable outside the vault.
Seed Phrase or Recovery Phrase?
They're easy to mix up. A seed phrase belongs to your crypto wallet, and you keep it in a seed phrase note. Your recovery phrase is the 12 words HypaVault gave your vault when you set it up. It resets your passcode and opens your backups, so it belongs on paper, not inside the vault it unlocks.
